19 Flower Ave - Hastings on Hudson, NY Sears Newark |
As of this date, Sears houses have been located in 42 states, the District of Columbia and the Provinces of Alberta and Ontario, Canada.
The following is a breakdown of the states that have the largest number of identified Sears homes.
1. Ohio (1500+ homes): Ohio continues to hold onto the top spot and will soon clear the 1,600 home mark. As was the case in February, Ohio alone accounts for over 20% of the houses on the list.
2. Illinois (1500+ homes): While Illinois remains in the number 2 spot, it saw a huge surge in its numbers and is less than 100 homes behind Ohio.
3. Pennsylvania (800+ homes): Pennsylvania blew right past two states as it rapidly closes in on 900 homes. The suburbs of the major cities in Pennsylvania continue to be a source of new finds.
4. New York (800+ homes): New York slipped a spot in the totals but it's not far behind Pennsylvania.
5. Michigan (800+ homes): Michigan dropped a spot but it also has cleared the 800 home mark.
6. Maryland (250+): Maryland's is just shy of 300 as new homes are found around the state.
7. Washington DC (275): DC holds onto the #7 spot by 1 house! I expect Indiana to move past DC by the next review as so many of the DC houses have already been identified.
8. Indiana (200+): Indiana continues to add homes and it's possible it will clear 300 homes by the next review.
9. Wisconsin (150+)
10. New Jersey (100+)
11. Virginia (100+)
12. Kentucky (100+)
Currently, there are 12 states where at least 100 Sears houses have been located in the state. I listed Virginia and Kentucky this time to reflect that. The top 10 states collectively represent over 90% of the total number of Sears houses found to date.
The national database of Sears Modern Homes is the collective work of a number of kit house researchers located across the country. The sources of the information in the database include the personal work of those researchers, the work of other kit house researchers, publicly available resources including newspapers and websites and information provided by home owners and other members of the public with an interest in kit houses.
